If everything is repeating
joint exhibition by Tomasz Dobiszewski and Dorota Walentynowicz, artists working at the borderline between analogue photography and new media

The exhibition's title refers to the existential anxiety that results from failure of theory in confrontation with sensual experience. Quantum mechanics, hyperspace, hidden dimensions, parallel universes, time loops - the development of science - paradoxically - leads to deepening of cognitive crisis. Science becomes fiction: it teaches that the world is not subject to laws that we could verify with our senses.

In the world we know nothing can exist in two places at once: repetition is a disorder of the spacetime continuum (like the presence of the photograph is synonymous with physical absence of that what is presented). However, discovering the secrets of optical media we have learned to create copies, phantoms, prostheses of the physical world. The first ever copy was the mirror image - Narcissus looking at himself in the mirror of water. Most recent copies are advanced three-dimensional prints of objects created on the basis of complex scans. These two extremes of production constitute the frame of the exhibition "If everything is repeating".
